MILESTONE man Jason Crump did everything he could to try and end up on the winning side but his efforts were frustrated on Monday night.

On his 200th appearance for Belle Vue, the two-time world champion blasted to a superb 15-point maximum - his first full house of the season at home.

But only fellow heat leader Charlie Gjedde offered any consistent support as the Aces slumped to their third Elite League defeat at Kirkmanshulme Lane despite providing nine of the fifteen heat winners.

Team manager Chris Morton said: "We were up against it with two riders coming back from injury and reserve Nick Simmons having his first meeting at the track, although he did all we asked of him.

"We gave two much away, especially against a team with a reserve in such good form as Joonas Kylmakorpi."

One of Belle Vue's comeback kids, Billy Forsberg - back after missing six matches with a broken thumb - arrived just 20 minutes before the start after his flight from Sweden had been delayed.

Then he suffered another scare in the opening race when he clipped Leigh Lanham's back wheel coming off the second bend and was thrown off his bike, landing awkwardly.

Fortunately, Forsberg escaped injury and was able to continue and linked up with Crump for Bellevue's only 5-1 advantage in Heat 6.

Belle Vue's other returnee, Paul Lukasz Jankowski, also crashed in his first outing back after being sidelined with a shoulder injury.

He and Lakeside's Lubos Tomicek collided in the dash to the first turn in Heat 3 and both came off.

Again, they were quickly up and in the rerun Jankowski blasted under Adam Shields on the third bend to move into second place behind Gjedde but he could not hold it and was passed by both visiting riders within half a lap.

Joe Screen also had a nightmare start, shooting out towards the fence on the third bend in his first race, which gifted Lakeside a 5-1 in Heat 4.

Screen bounced back with a win in Heat 7 but another maximum for the Hammers in the next put them six ahead.Crump had to use all his track craft to reel in Shields at the start of the final lap in Heat 10 to preserve his unbeaten record and with Forsberg third the Aces trailed by just four points.

But another 5-1 for Lakeside in Heat 11, left Belle Vue with too much to do in the closing stages despite Crump's brilliance and Lakeside - who had led from the second race - clinched victory with a race to go.

BELLE VUE: J Crump 15, C Gjedde 12, J Screen 5, B Forsberg 4 + 1 bonus, N Simmons 4, L Jankowski 1, J Raun 1.

LAKESIDE: J Kylmakorpi 12 + 2, A Jonsson 12, L Lanham 7 + 2, A Shields 7 + 1, L Tomicek 5, J Davidsson 4 + 2, R Kling 1.
