He had three heat wins in his 14 points, as did skipper Joe Screen who also had his best night for some weeks with 12.
It led the Aces, sponsored by Channel M, to a deserved win over the team next above them at the bottom of the table and set up hopes of a happier second half to the season.
Stead, whose confidence and scoring power had been sapped by two bad crashes, said: "I've had a tough year but I've been looking to turn things round, and hopefully, it is happening for me.
"I am back on top of my machinery after problems and now I must make sure I continue this change of fortune.
"It was good for me to get back among the points and it was also great for Belle Vue to get another victory."
The Aces made a perfect start with Stead and James Wright ripping to maximum points, an all too rare event in this troubled season.
Lead
Ipswich pulled two points back in the next but the lead was restored to four when home skipper Screen held off a determined challenge from veteran Chris Louis.
Stead was really steaming and clocked the joint fastest time of the night to win heat four in 59.8 seconds and build the lead to 15-9.
Screen clocked his second of the night in the fifth race but Ipswich were forcing their way back into the meeting.
They shared the points in heats five, six and seven and then took them all in heat eight to cut the Belle Vue lead to just two points.
The Aces pulled a master stroke in heat 11 when they gave Adam Skornicki an extra ride and the Pole flashed home behind Stead to give the Aces full points.
Skornicki was suddenly the man of the moment because he came out to partner Screen to another maximum in the next race, despite intense pressure from Louis, and the Aces had suddenly swept into a match-winning 12-point lead.
BELLE VUE: S Stead 14, J Screen 12, K Doolan 8, A Skornicki 8, J Wright 7, J Parsons 1.
IPSWICH: C Louis 12, T Kroner 9, R Miskowiak 7, J B Jensen 6, K Jansson 4, Z Suchecki 1, M Rempala 1.

Quality of racing was good, and it was good to see Stead and Screen getting back to form with solid heat leader performances - got to do this against the top teams too.
Much better from Skornicki who was really batting after his dire performance last time.

I'm always saying what great racing we have here as well as a winning team. The weather never fails us either. I can't remember the last time we had a rain-off.
What a difference a day/night makes.
On a serious note it was good to see this performance. Whilst a couple of the riders won't be able to produce the same scores against better opposition, this is balnced by the fact we were missing our Swedish duo Antonio Lindback and Billy Forsberg.
If we can all bring along friends and ex-supporters to the meetings (now that we have improved fare on offer),
we can ensure that Belle Vue's better season next year is one we get to see and enjoy.

Let's not look a gift horse in the mouth though and take some hope from this. We had the two new boys missing and so hopefully can look forward to better things.
Jimmy, Monday is a bad night but unfortunately we're constrained by our landlords, the Greyhound Racing Association who run meetings on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. We started out with Fridays, but later the GRA wanted to run on Fridays as well. When one of JPs dummy throwing sessions took The Aces out of the league preseason(albeit for only a couple of weeks before re-appying), it gave the GRA the opportunity to grab the Friday.
With the GPs operating on Saturdays with Friday practices, the Polish league running on Sundays and Sweden on Tuesdays, it's difficult to accommodate GP riders in any team. Other weekend clubs have also moved mid-week.
