But there will be a couple of well-known dads taking a close interest as well. Derek Richardson and Russ Hodgson, who rode for the Aces in the 1970s ,will be keeping tabs on their sons Scott and Rusty.
Rusty is a former road racer who has switched to speedway and is racing for Premier League Redcar while Scott is making progress at Conference club Scunthorpe.
There should have been a third father and son situation but Adam McKinna, whose dad Kenny was a popular Ace in his time, has broken his collarbone.
The field has been spiced up with the inclusion of two unknown teenagers from Down Under.
Aussie Aaron Summers and New Zealander Jade Mudgway will be desperate to make the most of a big chance.
They will have their work cut out against riders with experience of the track like local lads Ben Hopwood, of Irlam, and Bolton's Joe Haines, at 15 the youngest in the field.
Line-up: B Hopwood (Belle Vue and Plymouth), L Dalloway (Buxton), K Norton (Cleveland), A Tully (Scunthorpe), R Hodgson (Redcar), A Summers (Buxton), B Taylor (Belle Vue and Buxton), K Morris (Boston), S Martin (Oxford), S Richardson (Scunthorpe), S Lambert (Boston), B Bekker (Scunthorpe), J Haines (Scunthorpe), J Cockle (Sheffield), G Blair (Cleveland), J Mudgway (NZ). Res: T Hill, P Naylor.

Observer, the problem you have is that half of the posts made in my name are by some oh so amusing person, who is too much of an inadequate to post in their own name. But yes Mort was my favourite rider at Belle Vue, and yes I think this season has been a real nause up. You don't have to be an expert to see that the team is rubbish and the racing poor.
Oh yeah that Georgie Thompson looked a bit foxy round the pits too. I would have thought that Sky would have kept her away from Scott Nicholls, and just how did that ugly wart pull Sophie Blake?

Superquick times on a level with the Elite League.
I knew Andrew Tully would be up there, but Joe Haines was superb, a definite star of the future.
Never seen Greg Blair before but he was brilliant too.
well done lads...great meeting.

It's a pity we don't get to see racing of that calibre at Belle Vue anymore, it put me in mind of Hyde Rd.

I'll write about what I want to and as usual you will be left just following my lead and wishing you were me!
