Fisher has been beset by engine problems since March but Cambridge based Emlyn Davies has splashed out £2,500 to buy him a new motor and Fisher responded with six points, including a heat win.
Davies is only an occasional spectator at Belle Vue but his son Aaron, who plays ice-hockey for Blackburn Hawks, watches every week. He told his father that Fisher needed a lift because he was giving 100 percent and getting nowhere.
Fisher said: "He just told me to get a new motor and he'd foot the bill for it.
"This is definitely going to be the turning point in my season.
"I've been struggling to get a decent motor underneath me and this is a really good one.
"I borrowed a bike off my team mate Simon Stead recently and didn't realise just how slow my bikes were until I rode his.
Competitive
"Now I feel I can be competitive and I'm confident I can start to score a lot more points."
Fisher's improved contribution wasn't enough to prevent the bottom-placed Aces sliding to another defeat and they were shot down yet again by the opposition's big guns.
The Aces, sponsored by Channel M provided only five of the 15 heat winners with Aussie Kevin Doolan having another good night with two victories in the top score of nine points.
The Aces made the worst possible start, conceding full points to David Howe and Peter Karlsson with top man Stead a disappointing last.
Fisher stormed out of the first bend to win the second race but they had to be satisfied with a share of the points as team mate Adam Skornicki was last. The Aces took full points from heat 4 through Doolan and Skornicki but Wolves regained the lead in the fifth and held it for the rest of the match.
The Aces needed maximum points from the final heat to force a draw but the points were shared, Stead and Doolan being forced into minor placings by Peter Karlsson.
BELLE VUE - K Doolan 9, S Stead 8, A Skornicki 7, J Screen 6, R Fisher 6, J Wright 5, K Laukkanen 2.
WOLVERHAMPTON - P Karlsson 13, D Howe 9, M Karlsson 9, B Hamill 8, F Lindgren 6, W Lawson 2, K Hansen 0.

Kaj was the weakest link once again,if he had scored what his average says he can, then we would of won the meeting. This season is all about building for the future, why not use the money we are wasting on Kaj,and invest it in youth,Josh Auty springs to mind
Positive things first. Fisher looked better and was at least on the pace. We didn't capitulate completely in the second half of the meeting. Doolan looks to be improving all the time.
On the down side. The car park had a load more empty spaces than last week. We lost. We never looked like we were gonna win from heat 11. Our heat leaders were pathetic again.
I noted in the programme that all the Aces management were singing the same hymm. "We can't get a rider from anywhere, we have tried, honest. Two other clubs are in a mess too". Well it cuts no ice. That team should never ever have been put on the track together. Although two other tracks are struggling (or given up the struggle in Oxford's case) there are a further eight who aren't!
I read Boocock's comments with interest, He says that he was speaking to Trevor Swales of Peterborough last week, who is also involved at Oxford, and he told us that there were problems with Lindback's availability and he wanted a small fortune to ride. So why did he need Swales to tell him this, if we had already spoken to him ourselves? Strange.
Wright is doing pretty well all considered and yet I felt disappointed with him last night. He was paid for 7 points and yet because of the paucity of our team we have come to expect an even better return. Doolan and Wright were meant to be reserves, but have been left to sink or swim in the main body of the team.
Stead was poor on the whole, Screen too, after I'd said how he'd been reliable. Skornicki did a reasonable job. Kaj was a disgrace, looks like he's given up.
I also couldn't help but wince at Boocock's comments about how five of our team had improved their average and it was a position other clubs would like!!??!!
Well when you start from such a hopelessly low team average a slight improvement is not enough. Plus it is the three poor late signings made by this promotion that have made a town hall's of it. Laukkanen up fractionally, Slornicki and Fisher down loads.
Finally, read what Oxford's promotion were saying before yesterday and it was remarkably similar to what we are being fed. Next day, "Oooops we're closing"
I desperately desperately hope I'm worrying too much over nothing, but the crowd did look very thin.
Asked around again last night and pretty much everybody reckoned this is the worst team they've ever seen. The poor lad behind me was getting very distraught every time "things can only get better" was played over the P.A. "But they won't will they" he kept repeating.
Slight improvement, but still lost at home to an average team, without ever really looking like we were capable of winning.
More whinging rubbish from the prune Roger.
He still thinks top No.1 riders grow on trees, but still can't come up with one.
whinge whinge.
Sparse crowd - what's losing got to do with it? - hardly anything.
Where is the excitement we were promised at the start of the season?. We'll take a weakened side this year, no problem. However, clearly a mass of loyal long-term supporters have voted with their feet in droves at the total lack of entertainment caused by the slick track which limits passing opportunities.
To be honest Paul, I've never thought much of the racing at Kirky Lane. A winning team is important Paul, look at Coventry, they haven't had any passing for years, but usually have a decent team and the crowd has always been pretty good there.
Coventry is an example of hard-core support being at a sustainable level. But, the fare on offer won't attract newcomers to become regulars.
Belle Vue is in the middle of a conurbation of over 2.5 million people and they receive tons of invaluable publicity from, amongst others, the M.E.N which is a mass read newspaper. They should be filling the stadium far more than at present.
The major reason they don't is because of the lack of entertainment on offer. A winning team is just a bonus that will attract curious newcomers to a degree.
However, to make people desire to return week after week you need some entertainment. Kids (and adults) soon start moaning if bored out of their minds.
Very Well written Rodger.
That 's what i call a True Speedway in the know fan.I am afraid that all the Three Stooges can do is criticize.
There is only one way. That is to invest in the future of the Club.Start a Training School. On the Dent Oliver Style in the 60s.Eric Boocock may be a Yorkshire man.But it's a Fact!when it comes down to it.He as two faced as they come. The then England team.that he managed. Will Verify that one.Remember the WTC at Vojens! We finished Last. Why was that then? Why did you leave Belle Vue as manager last time. Was it really because of Stuart Bamforth?
The team is only as good as it's Manager. If you really need riders SOOO badly! Then you would be able to get them.On any Sunday,on the Continent. No you don't have to pay out a fortune.Because these Riders are Hungry and willing to prove it.
Manchester Paul it's a good point you make. I loved speedway at Hyde Rd and I can remember on my first trip to Monmore Green saying to my Missus that if I had to watch that kind of processional speedway every week I would give up going. After we moved to Kirky Lane I kidded myself that it was good racing, but in reality it is almost identical to the Wolverhampton track. I've only ever seen Joe Screen make passing look easy there, even Crump couldn't gate last and still win time after time, (not that he often gated last of course) The likes of Wolverhampton, Coventry and in the past Cradley all had poor race tracks but good teams and did well for crowds. Meanwhile racing has always been considered to be of a higher quality at Owlerton and Saddlebow Rd and yet they have never enjoyed massive crowds. Yes, we do want good quality racing, but it is amazing what people will find thrilling when they are winning each week.
Does "One Nil to the Arsenal" ring any bells?
A winning team and a track that drains well to avoid loads of rain offs are most important.
