Fisher will come good

BILLY Hamill, the 1996 World champion and former Belle Vue star, is backing fellow American, Ryan Fisher, to show his true colours with the Aces.

Californian Fisher, brought back into British speedway this winter after a two-year absence, has had a miserable start at Kirkmanshulme Lane with a string of mechanical problems.

Fisher landed his first heat win for the Aces in the return at Wolverhampton on Monday and Hamill said: "He's struggling to make the starts but if he drops down to reserve, then I think it will help him to get going.

"We are seeing nothing close to that. I raced him in California this winter and, although I won the meeting, he was my stiffest competition and was very quick."

The Aces face another tough test at Elite League title favourites Swindon tonight when Wolverhampton's David Howe and Tai Woffinden, of Rye House, guest for the absent Simon Stead and James Wright. Both are expected back for Monday's home match against Coventry.

THE World championship Grand Prix, which will be held at 11 European venues this season, is facing a major expansion into a global competition next year with Australia, New Zealand, America and the Far East all possible new venues.

The widening of the event follows the acquisition of Benfield Sports Speedway - the London-based rights holders to the World Championship and the World Cup - by IMG, the world's leading sports promotion company.

This team is an embarressment to the name of Belle Vue. Sure they are all trying, but how could the new management take us into a season with a team packed full of second string journeymen. James Wright will be the only saving grace from this season. I could see it from the night the team was announced. I thought there must have been some sort of error! You can't win meetings without heat leaders. Its a poor do when your best hope is Joe Screen, who although magnificent in his pomp is getting well past his best now! This season will turn into a shambles unless changes are made.

Doesn't sound like the previous commenter knows much about Speedway.

Belle Vue went to Swindon last night without 2 of their top 3 riders. Every team would get slaughtered at Swindon without 2 of their top 3.

Who exactly do you want to sign? There are no top stars available.

However I would get rid of Ryan Fisher. He is massively overweight, his machinery is rubbish and he's a serial underachiever anyway.

Get rid of him and sign Josh Auty.

Who did I want us to sign? Well a rider capable of winning heats for a start. The management had the same opportunity as every other club. We had three decent heat leaders last season, two of them left (for whatever reason)and haven't been replaced. Furthermore they have not utilised the full points limit or anything like it and so we went into the season with a team so poor that everybody (especially people who know about the sport) could see that we were going to finish bottom by a country mile. In the meantime the supporters are expected to turn up knowing they are in for a sound thrashing week in week out and we certainly won't win any away fixtures. I'm also prepared to bet that we don't win four bonus points all season. You have to win some heats to win meetings.

I know enough about Speedway to know that "two of our top three riders" shouldn't include a young kid riding at reserve.
