BOLTON boss Sam Allardyce is set to continue his beat-the-deadline signing spree by bringing in Real Madrid defender Ivan Campo.
He has made a formal approach to the Spanish giants to take the 27-year-old on loan until the end of the season.
Allardyce has created space in his squad - and his budget - by agreeing to let experienced defender Colin Hendry join Preston for a month on loan while young midfielder David Norris has gone to Hull on loan until the end of the season.
Allardyce has been keen to add Spanish star Campo to his squad after getting the nod from the board to continue the spree that has brought in five players from Europe - Fredi Bobic, Gerald Forchelet, Stig Tofting, Youri Djorkaeff and Mario Espartero.
Space in squad
Allardyce said: "We have asked Real Madrid for permission to talk to Campo.
"Colin Hendry hasn't played much recently because of injury so I asked him if he wanted to go to Preston to get some games and he agreed.
"With Norris going to Hull it has given me the opportunity to bring someone in. There are a lot of quality players about in Europe and Campo is a fantastic example.
"I have pushed the club to the limit over cash. A manager is always grateful when he gets new players but the board realised something had to be done when we slipped into the danger zone. I have already got a good squad and I feel it is strong enough to keep us up."
