A FORMER Great Britain RL boss has hit out, suggesting that overseas coaches should quit after two years in charge of an English club. Maurice Bamford has devised a radical plan aimed at combating what he terms "the strangulation of British coaches''''. Bamford told MEN Sport "We have plenty of good coaches but they are not getting the right kind of opportunities. That is wrong. "It makes sense for either an Aussie or Kiwi to just do two years at a club, and then be forced to make way for a British coach. "This sets up a cycle but it also creates an ongoing production line for first class, homegrown coaches." Bamford admits professional rugby league is possibly bigger and better than ever, but is concerned by the sport''s lack of genuine characters. He added: "I haven''t seen a player with a smile on his face since the introduction of Super League. "An ultra intense attitude from within Australia now dominates our game. "We no longer see steam rising when two packs go down to scrum. "We may have gained full time professionalism but we are now seeing clubs with major financial problems {ndash} this never happened on such a scale beforehand. "Today''s players are far too serious {ndash} they should start enjoying the game a bit more.'''' Bamford''s lifetime involvement in rugby league is chronicled in his best selling autobiography {ndash} the official launch takes place at the Oakwell Hotel, Birstall on March 1.
