Non-league football: Weekend preview

HYDE United have turned down a player-plus-cash bid by Tameside neighbours Stalybridge Celtic for their want-away star striker Simon Yeo.

Tigers’ chief Dave Nolan says his Bridge counterpart, Paul Futcher, has made him a ‘‘take-it-or-leave-it’’ offer for Yeo consisting of out-of-favour front man Matthew McNeil, who only weeks ago appeared to be on his way to Droylsden, together with an undisclosed sum.

But Nolan, who’s said to want £15,000 for his Stockport-based prized asset Yeo, has rejected the deal because it falls far short of his valuation.

Nolan said: ‘‘I can’t hide the fact I rate McNeil, but the overall package Stalybridge are offering doesn’t come close to what I’d want for Simon.

‘‘Paul Futcher says he can’t increase the money, so it would seem the deal’s dead.’’

Hyde, who have extended Southport front man Ben Obong’s loan stay to a second month, have a crucial game tonight (Friday 7 45), when they host fellow UniBond premier strugglers Frickley.

Southport, too, have a red-letter day tomorrow (Saturday), Phil Wilson’s side travelling to face their table-topping Nationwide Conference rivals Dagenham in the FA Cup first-round.

Droylsden will attempt to erase the bitter memory of their embarrassing 7-0 midweek mauling by UniBond premier leaders Burton, and, in the process, end a nine-match winless sequence, on their visit to Burscough.

First division pacesetters Radcliffe have a crunch date at second-placed Ossett Town, while Ashton United, now up to sixth, will receive their club-of-the-month prize before their home clash with Matlock.
