WITTON Albion will today ( Monday ) name Benny Phillips as their new manager - just days after he quit as boss of Mossley.
Ex-Witton defender Phillips, the Wincham Park outfit's choice to replace Eddie Bishop, watched them beat Guiseley 3-1 on Saturday and was introduced to the players after the game.
His appointment will be announced tonight and his first match in charge will see him return to another of his former clubs, Ashton United, for Witton's UniBond first division clash there tomorrow.
Mossley have wasted no time in replacing Phillips, upgrading their former Coventry star Ally Pickering to player/manager.
But Pickering, who only days ago was being targeted by Hyde, was unable to attend the Lilywhites' weekend FA Carlsberg Vase tie at Durham due a prior engagement and so missed seeing his side surrender a two-goal lead to lose 3-2.
To add to Mossley's cup woes, they've been expelled from the NWCL's Worthington Trophy for fielding an ineligible player - debut-making striker Padi Wilson - in their second-round win over Kidsgrove.
Stalybridge answered boss Paul Futcher's call for victory over fellow Nationwide Conference strugglers Hayes as Richie Peacock's solitary strike gave them their first home league win in nearly three months, hoisting the fast-improving Bower Fold side to fifth from bottom.
Hard-up Leigh are looking anxiously over their shoulders after crashing to their sixth home league defeat, 2-1 to crisis-torn Dover, but Northwich's battling 1-1 draw at leaders Dagenham offers them further hope of steering clear of trouble.
Altrincham were without a game in the UniBond premier, but it was still a good day for the title-chasing Robins, who saw both the teams above them, Burton and Lancaster, held to 1-1 home draws.
Hyde's mini-revival came to an abrupt halt in a 3-2 defeat at Worksop, plunging the Tigers back to the foot of the table.
Radcliffe marched five points clear in division one with 1-0 win at Belper courtesy of Scott Wilson's 68th minute special.
Debut-making ex-Maine Road marksman Jock Russell inspired NWCL promotion hopefuls Salford City to a 7-1 rout of rock-bottom Flixton - but missed out on scoring!
