HYDE United have agreed to a transfer request by their star striker Simon Yeo — but he won’t come cheap.
The Tigers have circulated Yeo’s name among northern Nationwide Conference clubs but are sure to want a five-figure sum for a player who has terrorised UniBond League defences for the last three years.
Yeo, darling of the Hyde fans and an Altrincham target during the summer, is keen to test himself at a higher level and Morecambe, who inquired about him last season, are among the clubs likely to be interested in giving him that chance.
With his mind apparently set on leaving Ewen Fields, Hyde clearly feel now’s the time to cash in on him rather than risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires.
New Hyde boss Dave Nolan, who’s said to have recently quoted Southport £15,000 for Yeo, said: ‘‘Simon wants to have a crack higher up than the UniBond and I can understand that because he’s a terrific player with a proven scoring record.
‘‘If a Conference club comes in for him, I wouldn’t want to stand in his way, but obviously we’re looking for a substantial fee.’’
Stalybridge chief Paul Futcher, who’s still in the market for a striker, was due to watch Yeo in Hyde’s FA Umbro Trophy replay against Ossett Town last night.
But, with no cash available to him for transfers, any hopes Futch might have of landing the Stockport-based star would seem to rest with the Tigers accepting a player-exchange deal.
