BIG-HITTING Delroy Cambridge powered to a closing round of 69 and a one-shot victory in the Manchester Evening News-backed Dan Technology Senior Tournament of Champions at Mere on Sunday.

The 51-year-old Jamaican, who has had nine top 10 finishes this season and lost a play-off to Japan's Seiji Ebinhara in the Jersey Masters in June, finally came good with a solid display of stroke-making in testing conditions for a seven-under-par three-round total of 205.

He only felt the pressure once and that was on the last hole when he heard that American Jerry Bruner, in the group ahead, had picked up an eagle to close the gap to one.

''I just played sensibly knowing that a par would be enough,'' said Cambridge, who joined the pro ranks 30 years ago.

''It did cross my mind that I might never win this year but now I've done it I can relax.

''I have been surprised how high the standard is over here. There are so many good players and it's not been as easy as I expected playing week in and week out.''
