CHRIS Fletcher's dream of a soccer career was shattered when he fractured his leg.

But it's since proved a lucky break because after taking up golf 18 months ago he's won four top titles including the Drive UK Mersey Valley Championship.

The 17-year-old Davyhulme Park 19 handicapper fired a 64 at Ashton-on-Mersey, beating clubmate Andy Carter by three shots.

Chris, who played soccer for Stretford Vics, has already lopped 11 strokes off his handicap this season and can expect to lose a few more after his latest success.

Apart from winning his club's knockout, the rest of his wins have been away from home - in junior opens at Astbury, Werneth Low and Worsley.

Rory Walsh gave the host club supporters something to cheer about when he took the gross award with 76.
