Latics announce hard line on racism

Oldham Athletic has confirmed that Boundary Park will be a zero tolerance area for racial abuse.

After meeting with the police, OMBC, the Football Licensing Authority and suppporters' group SAFE, the club announced that offenders at the ground face immediate eviction, prosecution and a lifetime ban from Boundary Park.

And, as part of a national campaign to kick racism out of football, a statement will be printed in the matchday programme and a telephone service will be set up so fans can make an anonymous complaint about any racist chanting or behaviour they encounter.

The anti-racism message will also be displayed on the club's official website, the PA, electronic scoreboard and via leaflets put on coaches travelling to away games. CCTV cameras will also be used at games to help identify offenders.

The supporters group SAFE has also confirmed that it will support the club in its efforts during the 2001/02 season.
