TWO world champions will be in an all-star line-up to race in the testimonial meeting for Belle Vue's Australian star Jason Lyons at Kirkmanshulme Lane on Sunday, August 12.

Former Ace Billy Hamill and Greg Hancock, who won the title for America in 1996 and 1997, have agreed to compete in an open individual meeting with qualifying heats, semi-final and final.

Lyons, 31, who joined the Aces from Glasgow in 1992 will also have fellow Aussie and Belle Vue specialist Jason Crump taking part along with other Down Under stars Craig Boyce, Shane Parker and Steve Johnston.

It will be a hectic weekend for Lyons and Johnston who ride in crucial Inter Continental Final - a qualifier for next year's Grand Prix - in Vastervik, Sweden the day before.

Both will fly back to Manchester on the day of the testimonial, which will attract a big turnout for a rider who has become known as Mr Belle Vue.

Lyons has already won the Overseas Final and is determined to mark his testimonial season by reaching the Grand Prix for the first time. It is a deserved target that has eluded him so far through bad luck and injury.

Meanwhile, he will be in action for the Aces in an Elite League match at Coventry tonight (Saturday at 7.30pm) when Hamill and Hancock will spearhead the home side.

Recent Polish signing Adam Labedski is expected back for the Aces after missing Monday's home win over King's Lynn with a knee injury.

Labedski is looking for mechanic to look after the bikes he uses in England. Anyone interested can contact general manager Terry Vernon on 0161 320 3704.

Aces junior Ricky Ashworth, who only took up speedway this season because the foot and mouth disease outbreak stopped grasstrack racing, has received a massive sponsorship boost.

Ashworth has made a big impression with his natural ability and Tony Cauchi, boss of Salford Skips UK Ltd, has bought him a 1,600 bike.

He said: ''I'm not really a speedway fan but I am a friend of the family and thought I'd like to help him.''

The Glossop and Disrict Supporters' Club will have Buxton boss Ken Moss and members of his team as their guest at the Globe, Walkers Lane, Hyde on Tuesday (8pm).
