BASKETBALL Manchester Magic started their season with a confidence-boosting National Trophy victory.

They powered to an impressive 89-70 victory away to the Coventry Crusaders at the weekend, to give a perfect start for their American coach Jeff Jones.

Andy Thomson was the star of the show with 29 points just five ahead of John Cagnianello. "The league is our priority this season, but it would be great to have a good run in the National Trophy," said Jones.

Magic play Worthing Thunder this Saturday at the Amaechi Centre, (4pm).
