Speedway: Street-wise Crump

CORONATION STREET star Jimmy Harkisson, alias Dev Alahan, made his first trip to a speedway meeting last night.

He thoroughly enjoyed the experience, saying: "I was brought up near Harringay Speedway in London but I never went and there are no tracks down there now.

"I've been trying to get to Belle Vue for a meeting for a year."

He had a chat with Aces' captain Jason Crump who is looking forward to his own coronation as World Champion later this year.

But Crump, riding with an injured foot, was in a street of his own as he raced to a 15-point maximum as the Aces won the match and took the aggregate bonus point to go back into the top four of the table.

Storming

Simon Stead gave the Aces a flying start by winning the first race and they pulled two ahead when James Wright won the second.

The points were shared in the next despite a home win by Kenneth Bjerre and Crump removed any fears of a backlash to his ankle injury by winning heat four. Wright tucked in third to extend the lead to four but it was reduced to two in the next race.

Joe Screen and Stead stormed to full points in the sixth to open up a six-point lead and wipe out Coventry's five-point home advantage.

The match remained on a knife-edge until the late stages when Wright came in as a replacement in the penultimate race and won it in fine style to make sure the Aces took the match points.

That left the aggregate bonus point to be settled in the final race and Crump made no mistake, steaming away from rival Scott Nicholls.

BELLE VUE: J Crump 15, J Wright 10, J Screen 9, K Bjerre 8, S Stead 6, TP Madsen 1.

COVENTRY: S Nicholls 11, C Harris 8, R Schlein 7, B Janniro 6, M Tressarieu 6, O Allen 3, T Bachelor 0.

What is your verdict on the match? Have your say.

Crumpie was in a class of his own last night - and this is from a guy that doubted whether he could cope with his injury on a smaller track!!! I think he can somehow!!!!
The whole team pulled together well and we scooped all 3 points - magic!!!

He showed up "our Scotty Nicholls" (Trademark sky t.v.) for what he really is by twice beating him by close on half a lap. Good win, now win one or two away please
