DAVID Horsey will get an insight into life in the paid ranks when he pegs up at Marriott Worsley Park as one of four invited amateurs in next weekés Morson International Pro-am Challenge, which is being run in association with the Manchester Evening News.

Surprisingly, it will be his first appearance at this level, mainly down to his demanding England commitments and also because heés had no particular desire to play alongside the big boys.

éI wonét feel under any pressure and Iéll approach the tournament in the same way as any other,é said the 21-year-old Styal member, who gave the regional professionals a run for their money when he finished joint third in the M.E.N. Open at Mottram Hall last October.

éI have no plans to turn pro, certainly not until after the Walker Cup, which is my target next season, but this will give me some idea what to expect when I make my decision.é

Horsey, who plays off a plus-four handicap, will have nothing to prove at Worsley because he has established himself as one of the countryés most exciting talents since announcing his arrival on the international scene in 2004, when he was beaten in the English Championship final.

Record

Last year, he won the Greek Amateur and the County Championsé Tournament, thanks to a course record at Woodhall Spa. And heés been quick out of the blocks this season, winning the West of England Championship and the Southport and Ainsdale Bowl, as well as finishing sixth in the Lytham Trophy.

Horsey, who played a key role in Englandés emphatic win over France in Bordeaux this month, had the wind taken from his sails when he missed the cut by two shots in last weekés Brabazon Trophy at breezy Ganton.

éThat was mostly down to my putting,é said the player who has opted to compete in the European Youthsé Championship in July instead of the Open Championship regional qualifier.

Also in the Marriott field is his 16-year-old Cheshire team-mate Adam Wills, from Sandiway, whose dad is pro at Portal; his England stablemate Danny Denison, from Yorkshire; and Sam Torranceés strapping son Daniel, top amateur in the é100,000 event last year.

Some 156 players from the Challenge Tour é the second flight to the main circuit é will battle to make the 36-hole cut, after which the leading 60 and ties will join forces with an amateur within a fourball.

The action starts on next Wednesday and finishes on Saturday.
