ANOTHER Warrington Wolves star is at the centre of a drugs investigation by the Rugby Football League.
M.E.N. Sport can reveal a high profile Wolves star, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is at the centre of an inquiry involving his club and the game's governing body.
Rugby Football League media manager John Huxley said: "We can confirm a Warrington player is being investigated for a doping control irregularity."
Investigation
Warrington media manager Gina Coldrick said: "An investigation is taking place - I cannot say any more.
"Warrington Wolves have however offered information to the Rugby Football League regarding a banned substance currently making the rounds."
Two seasons ago, ex-Wolves hooker Dave Highton tarnished the club's image by testing positive for a banned performance-enhancing substance.
Highton was handed a six-month ban by the League. The shamed star later signed for Salford City Reds.
The League has a strict policy on drugs. They carry out random tests and are among sport's leaders in the fight to combat drug use.
This latest incident involving a Warrington first-team star is understood to have taken place before Paul Cullen took over as coach in August of this year.
'Badly advised'
Highton, who admitted taking a banned substance, claimed he had been badly advised.
This was taken into consideration but he served his full punishment term before returning to the game.
He was signed by former Salford coach Steve McCormack.
This latest incident at Warrington is understood not to involve any form of steroid abuse.
M.E.N. Sport can also reveal Wolves will not field an Alliance team next season.
