THE Rugby Football League have hit back at claims by former Great Britain manager Phil Clarke that they have failed to give their full support to the international game.

The former Wigan and Great Britain loose forward, who stepped down as manager this week after five years in the post, claimed Britain were no nearer to beating Australia than they were 15 years ago.

Clarke called for a reduction in the number of Super League matches and for greater emphasis to be placed on the national side if Britain are to avoid more humiliation Down Under when the Aussies host the 2006 Tri-Nations Series.

RFL director of corporate communications Simon Malcolm, retorted: "The RFL remains totally committed to providing the best possible preparation for the 2006 Tri- Nations. The staff will get - as always - the full support and commitment of the RFL." Tweet
