MUIRFIELD is to stage golf's 2007 Senior British Open just a week after Nick Faldo, twice a winner of the Open on the Scottish links, celebrates his 50th birthday and therefore becomes eligible.

The event, sponsored by Aberdeen Asset Management, will be on July 26-29, following on from the Open at Carnoustie, and it will be the first time Muirfield has played host.

Faldo won the first of his six majors at the course and five years later he played what he called "the best four holes of my life" to overtake John Cook.
