BELLE Vue's superb speedway season was being recognised by the City of Manchester today with a civic reception.
The Fonestyle UK Aces, taken over a year ago by new promoter Tony Mole, ended a run of disappointing seasons by winning speedway's top trophy, the Knockout Cup, and finishing runners-up in the Elite League championship.
Coun Mohammed Afzal Khan, the Lord Mayor, invited a party of riders and club officials to the prestige event.
Co-promoter and team manager Ian Thomas said: "It's the first time Belle Vue have had recognition like this since we won the league in 1993. We are thrilled."

Great to see the achievements of Belle Vue being recognised at this level. The team have put themselves back on the speedway map this year and the crowds have returned in numbers to support one of Manchesters famous sporting clubs.Well done and thoroughly deserved.
Superb effort from the promotion and riders. It was great to go to meaningful matches again. The most pleasing aspect though was seeing the crowds return, although we lost to Cov in the Play off final the atmosphere was electric.
