The world No 6 is a member of the 10-strong Team England along with Worsley's Vicky Botwright.
Nicol won a gold medal in the men's singles competing for Scotland at the Kuala Lumpur 1998 Games, when he also won a bronze in the men's doubles.
He then switched his allegiances to England, winning a men's doubles gold, partnering Lee Beachill, at Manchester 2002.
But the former world number one had to settle for silver in the men's singles in Manchester, losing to Canada's Jonathon Power in the final.
Nicol, 32, is aiming to make Melbourne 2006 his most successful Commonwealth Games yet.
"It's quite simple, I'm going there to win," he said. "I think I've got a good chance of winning the singles and the doubles."
Lee Beachill, currently ranked fourth in the world, is also named in the team.
Tania Bailey, who won silver partnering Cassie Jackman in the women's doubles in Manchester, returns to Commonwealth Games action in Melbourne, where four of England's five women players feature in the world's current top 10.
