The 29-year-old's move from Derbyshire was finally confirmed yesterday, following Hegg's retirement after almost two decades behind the stumps.
"We always knew that Warren would be difficult to replace," said Lancashire's manager Mike Watkinson.
"But we are delighted that Luke has agreed to join us. He is a high quality wicket keeper who is also a top-six batsman so he will add an extra dimension to our team."
Sutton is originally from Somerset and was a former Durham University team-mate of Lancashire captain Mark Chilton, and will find another familiar face at Old Trafford in former Derbyshire captain Dominic Cork.
Luke has given up the Derbyshire captaincy to play First Division cricket with Lancashire next year, and said: "I'm looking forward to joining up with the squad."
