Speedway: Ben handed chance

BEN Hopwood gets the chance to mark himself down as a Belle Vue rider of the future at Kirkmanshulme Lane tonight.

The 14-year-old from Cadishead, who is lying fifth in the British Under-15 championships, rides in an eight-race mini match for youngsters from the British Promoters' Association Academy before the Belle Vue Junior championship (7.45).

He hopes to follow the tyre prints of Salford's Ricky Ashworth, who has graduated from grasstrack racing into a star at Premier League club Sheffield.

The Junior championship is run over 12 qualifying races with the top eight going forward to two semi-finals and a final.

Line-up: Charles Wright, Byron Bekker, Karl Mason, Benji Compton, Lee Derbyshire, Luke Priest, John Branney, Paul Burnett, Jack Gledhill, Danny Hughes, Carl Belfield, Adam McKinna.

61.5- fastest junior ever!

Fantastic and to be blunt the only rider in the under 15's on view last night who has the chance to make it to the very top. I hope he ends up at BV for his whole career.

Aces fan, You seem a little confused!
Whilst Ben Hopwood is a good little rider with a bright future and the kind which Belle Vue Should be encouraging, he didn't clock the 61.5 seconds time.
The 61.5 second time was clocked by Ben Taylor another extremely bright talent.
61.5 was an amazing achievement and was a time worthy of the EL.

The other brilliant local talent I thoght was Joe Haines.
