"There's no disgrace in finishing second to the best player in the world," said the 42-year-old Scot.
"I've enjoyed competing again at this level. It's eight years since I finished runner-up in a major to Erne Els in the US Open. That's a long time and I'm fortunate that I'm still healthy enough to have a resurgence after being in the wilderness.
"I'm getting back to the position I was in during the 1990s on the European Tour."
Monty does not think it's too late to win an elusive major. "I've taken a lot of positives out of this week. I got to a shot of Tiger after 10 holes but then took the wrong club and bogeyed.
"It threw me a bit and that's where I lost of momentum."
Will Monty ever win a major? Have your say. Tweet
