Darts: Super Taylor powers to title

THERE was no 'Power' cut in Manchester last night as Phil Taylor put world number one Colin Lloyd firmly in his place.

Terrific Taylor thrashed Essex man Lloyd 16-4 to capture the inaugural 888.com Premier League title.

The 12-times world champion's one-sided victory in just over an hour was worth '50,000 to the Stoke-On-Trent ace.

Lloyd's consolation was '30,000, but `Jaws' knows there's a class divide between him and ton-up Taylor.

The new champion averaged exactly 100 in his two appearances at the G-Mex Centre, including his semi-final struggle against Dutchman Rowland Scholten.

But he was switched on from the very first dart against Lloyd

"Certain players bring the best out of you and Colin is one of them," said Taylor, whose one-sided victory was watched by a 900-strong crowd including Justin Hawkins, lead singer of rock band the Darkness.

St Helens favourites Paul Sculthorpe, Paul Wellans and Jon Wilkins were also there. Taylor stamped his authority on the match by winning seven successive sets from 5-2 to 12-2.

Taylor later dedicated his victory to Manchester boxing star Ricky Hatton. "I will be at ring side to watch Ricky win the World title this weekend," said Taylor of his friend's impending world title shot against Kostya Tszyu.

"This is the biggest fight of Ricky's life and I'm going to be there to see him win the title."

The PDC cocked up here and got greedy. The semis' and the final should have both been on the same night, as previously planned when it was originally meant to be held in Bradford. The events were not value for money. Apart from that the Premier league has been a success and I can't wait for next weekend - The UK Open in Bolton.
