ANTHONY SPROSTON clinched the Manchester Golfer of the Year title at Bramall Park with a two-over-par 72 in the Alliance President's Trophy.

The 41-year-old High Legh Park teaching professional, who also won the coveted award in 1997, went into the final ranking event three points ahead of the holder David Valentine, of Chorlton.

But Valentine failed to narrow the gap and finished 23 points adrift in second.
