RUGBY LEAGUE: Neil Jukes has lifted the NW Counties coach of the year title in his first full year as a coach. Jukes led Ince Rose Bridge to the league championship for the first time and also the Lancashire Cup, writes RON GIRVIN.

Bridge were also runners up in the National Cup. It was a double celebration for the Wigan club at the league''s presentation evening at Old Trafford Cricket Ground.

Second row forward Kevin Shepherd walked off with the player of the year award. Kevin wasn''t there to receive his trophy as he is in France with the BARLA Great Britain team.

Warrington Wolves have signed Ben Westwood, the Wakefield Wildcats and England U21 centre, in a £60,000 deal.

Westwood has agreed a two-and-a-half year deal with Warrington. But both Wood and Westwood won''t be allowed to play in tomorrow''s relegation home clash against their old club.

SOCCER: Bury defender Sam Collins could be set for a move to Port Vale.

Collins, one of the highest wage earners at Gigg Lane last season, wasn''t offered a new contract.

However, former Manchester City chief Brian Horton is ready to give Collins a two-year deal.

"I''ve played for Brian before at Huddersfield and I really enjoyed working with him," said Sam.

The PFA have taken up striker Allan Smart''s case following his sacking by Oldham for disciplinary reasons.
