The visitors opened well but failed to convert a couple of chances early on, Dom Slaven volleying over and Jordan Hulme’s attempt was put out for a corner.
At the other end, Brian Matthews’ 30-yard free kick proved a comfortable save for Padiham stopper Sean Davis and when Matthews had another opportunity soon after he failed to connect properly and saw the ball trickle out of play.
Chris Smith, on his first start of the season since recovering from injury, turned on the edge of the box and struck a ball low drive goalward only for Davis, the Padiham keeper, to deny him.
But Smith made no mistake on the half hour when he headed home from a corner, giving Davis no chance.
Five minutes before the break Matthews cut in from the right and shot across the face of goal, Davis getting his fingers to the shot but the power of the effort proved too much for him.
The Flixton faithful thought they had scored again on the stroke of half time but the referee spotted a handball from Matthews and disallowed his attempt.
The game was marred by a bad ankle injury to Pat McFadden on the stroke of half time and there were no further goals.
Flixton remained in charge after the interval and continued to press forward into the Padiham half; Fintan Doran collected a through ball but was denied by the keeper, Matthews picking up the loose ball but shooting over.
That man Davis denied Thomas Bailey when he struck a decent long-range drive.
Hulme had an opportunity at the other end but was cut out well by the Flixton defence.
