Harris, a 21-year-old scratch player from Whitefield, strung together rounds of 73 and 70, one-under-par, to beat Manchester's Andrew Terry by three shots. But some of his thunder was stolen by ninth placed Michael Hunt who clinched the merit title by 15 points in one of the tightest finishes for years.
The Pleasington player would have been denied by his closest rival Ken Hudson, his Lancashire team-mate from Hart Common, had he not bogeyed the last hole.
Ashton-on-Mersey's Kevin Kean, the only other contender for the merit title, gave it his best shot but trailed five strokes behind Harris in fourth spot.
Meanwhile Ross Wilson homed in on the Daniel Harding Memorial Trophy on his own course Swinton Park with a 72. Chorlton's Oliver Nock, a 19 handicapper, won the nett prize with a 70. Meanwhile, the final event in the Manchester Junior League is at Blackley on Saturday.
And Swinton Park duo Colin Fox and Lynn Hallam won the closing South East Lancs GA fixture at Ellesmere with 38 points. Their clubmate Marjorie Charleston and playing partner Wayne Cheadle, from the host course, were runners-up on countback. Tweet
