JASON Crump is back in tune to clinch his first world title with two grand prix meetings to go.

Belle Vue's Australian star had his overall lead reduced to 15 points when he hit a rut and was eliminated at the semi-final stage of last week's Slovenian Grand Prix in Krsko.

It allowed five-times champion Tony Rickardsson to reel in Crump's lead from 23 points but the Aussie is confident he can complete the job after finishing runner-up for the last three years.

He scored a six-ride unbeaten meeting for the Aces on Wednesday against an Oxford side that included Greg Hancock, third in the world championship standing a point behind Rickardsson.

Crump faces the Polish Grand Prix at Bydgoszcz next Saturday before winding up with the Norwegian GP at Hamar on October 2. He relishes the Bydgoszcz date as it is a track where he does well, unlike Krsko, where he has failed to get past the semi-final stage.

Said Crump: "I've had a flat spot in my form for a few weeks. That has included the last two grand prix meetings in Gothenburg and Krsko where I felt things weren't quite right.

"But I've had some regular racing again for Belle Vue after all the postponements and I feel I've come through it.

"I'm looking forward to Bydgoszcz and feel I'm ready for another good meeting.

"I blamed myself for the mistake at Krsko because I was second at the time and, if I'd stayed in that position, I would have qualified for the final even though I wasn't at my best.

"You could say it was bad luck to hit a rut but it was up to me to make sure I didn't."

Crump has a hectic programme now the Aces have hit a patch of better weather and are clearing their Elite League backlog.

They are at home to Swindon tomorrow, go to Peterborough on Tuesday, receive Ipswich on Wednesday and are away to Coventry on Thursday.

Crump will miss the Coventry match as he has a pre-arranged meeting with sponsors in Poland, prior to the grand prix.

But, first, he has today's Elite League Riders championship at Poole, when the 16 top riders in the averages do battle.
