Altrincham-born Poole has been charged with getting maximum effort out of the host nation's middle and long distance athletes and the country's walkers and marathon runners.
It's a massive task for the highly-respected coach who celebrated his 54th birthday at the start of the week.
So, to see Stockport-born Wild debut at a major international competition gives Poole extra satisfaction.
The 28-year-old Sale Harrier goes in the first track final of the Games at the City of Manchester Stadium tomorrow night.
And while 28-year-old Wild, the reigning AAA's 5,000m champion, isn't likely to win a medal, Poole knows he won't let his country down.
"Jon has had a few problems with injuries. But thanks to the work of physio Dean Kenneally, he's in the best shape so far this year.
"There are probably 12 guys in the field who have run faster this year but Jon won't let anyone down.
"He's got a great finishing kick, though I'm not sure he will have a chance to use it tomorrow night.
"However, I know he is enjoying the atmosphere. And maybe had he not spent so much time at University in America over the years, then he perhaps could have attended a few more Games."
Kenyan trio John Cheruiyot, Paul Koskei and Wilberforce Talel are all in contention for that historic first track gold.
Poole knows England's, as well as Britain's, standing in the world of middle and long distance running isn't as high as it once was.
And there will be criticism if there are no medals forthcoming. But he insists: "These things go in circles and besides, I think there is some fantastic talent out there.
"Michael Rimmer from Liverpool Pembroke is only 16 but a great prospect.
"At senior level Anthony Whiteman has run 3 mins 32 secs - one of the fastest times in the Commonwealth this year - while Helen Pattinson from Preston in the 1,500 metres is in great shape."
Poole also feels there is plenty of untapped talent waiting to be discovered.
"There are enough 400m athletes who could possibly become world class 800m runners if they put their minds to it.
"I'm just really looking forward to the next 10 days. It should be exciting."
