JAMES Pickford won the SEAT Cupra Championship at Donington Park, and sorted himself out with a top line drive for next season at the same time.
Pickford, from Macclesfield, was almost lost for words after achieving the title he has contested for two seasons.
The 25-year-old went into the final double-header with a 20-point lead over closest rival Tom Boardman, and only needing a pair of fifth places to take the crown.
James stayed out of trouble and secured the championship with a 5th and 4th place.
"We didn't have the ultimate pace today, but we did what was needed,' said Pickford.
'It's just a relief to have done it.'
Last season, Pickford failed to mount a title challenge due to mechanical problems and racing incidents, and at the beginning of the 04 season it looked like more of the same when he left Brands Hatch with a 24-point deficit despite winning the first round.
However, throughout the year, he demonstrated pace and consistency, gaining nine podium finishes, including three race wins and six fastest laps.
The prize for winning the SEAT Cupra title means that Pickford joins Jason Plato in the SEAT touring car team and will be competing as a factory driver in the BTCC 2005.
'I can't wait,' Pickford added.
'Next year I want to make a name for myself in touring cars, and help SEAT win the manufacturers title.'
