The club's former greenkeeper-turned-steward, a stalwart of the Lancashire County side, was two strokes off the pace after opening with a 70.
And he fell further behind when he bogeyed the first hole in the second round. Then he started his birdie blitz, grabbing nine all told including five on the bounce from the eighth.
Runner-up was Clitheroe's Mark Ashworth, fresh from helping Lancashire to beat Durham at Stand in the Northern Counties League.
Meanwhile, Pleasington's Michael Hunt holds a 120 point lead over Yorkshire man Will Fox in the order of merit with Ashton-on-Mersey's Kevin Kean third and 135 back.
*HOME pair Terry and Ruth Brown copped the GS Lancashire Cup over their own course with a superb plus five score to complete a hat-trick of results in a week to remember.
Former policeman Terry won the Northern Seniors' Championship at Carlisle and dropped his handicap to two. Ruth, a serving police officer, won a club competition on the same day to reduce her handicap by two shots to 27.
And they combined superbly in the new greensome bogey format which attracted an increased entry for the competition on previous years.
*HESKETH'S Matthew Baldwin made a great start as England Boys' captain when he led his side to silver and gold medals in the European Team Championships in Finland.
And he led by example by winning the individual 36-hole qualifying tournament. England then defeated Sweden 5-2, Belgium 7-0 and then Spain in a tight final.
Meanwhile, the England Youths team which included Bromborough's Paul Waring, could not quite match the boys and lost in a nail biting final 4-3 to Scotland in Ireland.

Success was credited to Ringway assistant Danny Turner, who has taken 37 children under his wing. *CENTENARY club Stand captured the North West Manchester GA Millennium Trophy over their home course when they beat Rochdale, winners for the three previous years, by 12 shots.
It was the second trophy since event was initiated in 2000, the original one being destroyed by a fire at Rochdale last year.
*CHESHIRE failed to cash in on home advantage at Yorkshire won the Northern Boys' Championship at Stockport. They tied fourth with Northumberland, 33 shots off the pace, as Lancashire finished second, 19 adrift.

*TIM Maxwell, who narrowly failed to make the Open, gained some consolation when he shot four-under-par 67 in the Mansell Finishes pro-am at Mere. LEE Westwood has been paired with Tiger Woods in the opening two rounds on Thursday and Friday. The pair will tee off along with Greg Norman at 1.42pm in the first round and at 8.31am the following day.
"We've had Henmania and that's enough," said Westwood, on his wish to stay out of spotlight.
