Speedway: It's Lyons roar again

JASON Lyons, Belle Vue's Australian speedway rider, is turning his disappointing season round at Newcastle.

The Urmston-based star was loaned to Elite League champions Poole at the start of the season after 12 years at Kirkmanshulme Lane.

But he struggled for form and consistency at the Dorset track, and he moved to struggling Premier League side Newcastle when he was released two weeks ago.

Lyons won all his six races in Newcastle's home win over Stoke, and team manager George English said: "Jason shocks his opponents with some spectacular passing."

Joe Screen, the rider who replaced Lyons in the Belle Vue team, will be hoping to take his improved form into tomorrow's Championship of Great Britain at Oxford.

Belle Vue's Elite League match at Poole last night was rained off, and next Monday's home match against Arena Essex has also been postponed because of major track work.

As a speedway fan who supports Belle Vue I find it difficult to understand the management's difficulty in rearranging postponed matches we have a backlog of nine matches at present. We look unlikely to fulfill all our matches again this season.
