FIGHTING fit teenager Danny Thornton played three rounds of golf yesterday - and won all of them!
The 16-year-old Lowes Park junior was a key figure as Lancashire Boys beat their Cheshire counterparts 10-8 at Marriott Worsley Park.
Then he dashed off to Ainsworth Hall to beat Rossendale's Mark Whittaker three-and-two in the first round of the Bury Championship.
Thornton had earlier teamed up with Bolton's Robert Taylor to despatch Davenport's Neil Midgelow and Mike Allen, from Eastham Lodge, five-and-four to help Lancashire to a two point foursomes lead.
And then with Cheshire threatening to take charge of the singles, he beat Frodsham's Lloyd Darlington on the final green.
The Red Rose lads made the match safe as Gathurst's Andrew Halladay crushed Styal youngster Martyn Walsh seven-and-five and host club player Nick Holmes saw off Bramall Park's Martyn Walsh two-and-one.
Back at Bury, defending champion Ashley Siddle, from Rossendale, made it safely into tonight's semi-final by eclipsing the host's Matt Berry.
He'll meet leading qualifier Sean Doherty, from Bury, who also had a winner in Tom Crooney who beat Thornton's older brother Mark by two holes.
Now Danny will try to avenge Mark's defeat when he takes on Tom in the other semi.
- LEE Parr, the man with the fastest hands, was quick off the mark after winning the North West Manchester GA Championship qualifier at Prestwich.
No sooner had he posted his 67 than he was boarding a flight to Mexico for a family holiday.
And aptly-named Parr, whom Titleist claimed generated more power than Tiger Woods and Ernie Els when they fitted him out with a new club for a long-driving competition, will have to wait until he gets home to find out if he's broken the course record at his club Swinton Park.
The club are still musing over whether his six-under-par 67 in a matchplay round will stand, even though Parr putted out on every hole.
- GOLF has taken on a "hole" new meaning at Houldsworth. Seven members have shot aces in the last eight weeks. And it's left officials scanning the record books to see if the feat has been achieved before.
The magnificent seven are Paul Henderson, Mike Curran, Steve Mather, Charles Travers, Don McNee and Christine Waterfield and Pat Wren.
