RITA Towler won the Bury GA Women's Championship for the second time in two years when she beat rising 16-year-old Greenmount star Emma Lister three and two in the final at Lowes Park last night.
The 53-year-old Harwood player was never behind as she raced into a three-hole lead after 10 and despite her opponent hitting back to reduce the margin to one, she won the 15th and 16th to settle the issue.
Meanwhile, Cheshire's defence of the Northern Counties Women's Championship at Seascale took a knock when they were beaten by four points by Yorkshire on the third day of week-long event.
Lancashire gained their first victory, 7-2 over Cumbria as Durham kept their 100 per cent record by beating Northumberland by six points.
- NICKY Harris set a course record five-under-par 64 during the Whitefield 36-hole scratch competition.
And with his handicap reduced the scratch, the 21-year-old is hoping his performance won't go unnoticed by Lancashire.
Harris, who clipped two shots off the old mark, won the event after opening up with a 68.
