Droylsden lose FA Cup appeal

Sean Newton after scoring against Chesterfield

Non-league Droylsden have lost an appeal against their expulsion from the FA Cup for fielding an ineligible player.

The Blue Square North side were kicked out of the competition after it was found that defender Sean Newton, who scored both goals for the Manchester side in their 2-1 victory over Chesterfield, should have been serving a suspension for picking up five bookings.

They lodged an appeal but the FA have announced that has failed.

The FA said in a statement: “The FA can confirm that today's appeal by Droylsden FC against their removal from this season's FA Cup was unsuccessful.”

Chesterfield will now play at Ipswich on Saturday in the third round.

Shame one of our local sides is not now through to the next round of the FA Cup but it was a stupid error to make and a futile attempt at an appeal.

The appeal seems like a way of covering themselves from blame, still believing that they are innocent

Good luck for the rest of the season Droylsden but try not to make the same mistake again. The area could have been very proud

It was reported that Dave Pace said he would throw himself off the nearest bridge if Droylsden lost there appeal where would his nearest bridge be????

There is a good bridge if you turn left out of the ground go passed the Medlock Sports centre just before Daisy Nook, goes over the M60 on a brighter note I am sure I read somewhere that Pace would resign.

Dave Paces definition of beating a team 'fair and square' is quite amusing. Fielding players not eligible to play is not fair, or square .

As a non football fan, shouldn't the player have known he was ineligible as well as the club?
