ANDY Parrington is enjoying what he calls his ‘dream job’ as assistant to Withington Golf Club pro Steve Marr.
Parrington was a late entrant into golf, only beginning at the age of 15 after enjoying around of pitch and putt at Heaton Park.
Being bitten by the golf bug he had his first set of clubs for his 16th birthday and joined the Acre Gate Golf Club in Flixton.
His first handicap was 26, which was soon docked six shots after he won his first competition and it has since plummeted to five.
Parrington said: "My aim is to get down to at least four for next season then I can register with the PGA and enrol on the PGA professional course.
"I started working at Withington in 2006 and Steve has been a big inspiration to me and has helped me massively with my game. I am sure that, with his guidance, I can fulfil my potential.
"In October 2004 I was made Junior Captain at Acre Gate which was a great privilege and in the following year when I became 18 I became a full member of the club.
"I was then appointed onto the club council as junior organiser and I have just begun my fourth year in that role.
"Acre Gate is only a small club and membership numbers are not particularly high, however it is one of friendliest and most hospitable golf clubs in the area.
"It is a club that means a great deal to me and I am more than happy to put in my time and effort for the good of the club as well as pursuing my career ambition at Withington."
