RL: Revitalised Salford win again!

TWO wins on the trot have lifted Salford Reds' spirits - and taken the team off bottom spot in Super League.

Yesterday's (Sunday's) 42-18 victory over Wakefield Trinity Wildcats dumped the Yorkshire side in the basement and was further proof that a revival may be afoot at the Willows.

The arrival at the Reds of Karl Harrison appears to have sparked something in the heart of the players - there is no doubting the team's new-found spirit and commitment.

The Reds had a try on the board inside a minute and were never going to lose this vital "four-point" clash.

Harrison has cracked the whip since replacing Steve McCormack. Hard-working half-backs Graham Holroyd and Ian Watson were the architects of a throughly deserved Salford win after skipper Bobbie Goulding cried off with a pelvic injury.

Coach Harrison called for another quick-fire start and Danny Arnold duly obliged with the first of his side's seven tries.

Watson added a second on four minutes and two more tries followed after Trinity briefly reduced the deficit. Alan Hunte gobbled up an interception and Stuart Littler squeezed in to make it 22-6 at the break.

Karl Harrison was quick to praise his midfield generals at half-back. He said: "We scored some quality tries. A good start is something we have worked on. We played some smart stuff, dominated the game - I am delighted to have picked up two more points. There is still plenty of football to be played - but we again have something to build on."

Paul Southern, the impressive Darren Treacy and Paul Highton scored Reds second-half tries.

Salford also won the forward battle with the tigerish Treacy finally starting to shine and display the form which earned him a huge reputation in the NRL.

He was a rock at times. Neil "Basher" Baynes was equally effective while the commitment of hooker Mal Alker again defied belief.

This was Salford's biggest win of the season. It suggests a three-way fight for relegation could become a two way tussle between Trinity and Warrington.
