BELLE Vue new boy Steve Boxall will have a double helping of Crump family back-up when the season kicks off next month.

Boxall, at 20 one of England's bright young lights, moves up from Premier League champions, Rye House, determined to maintain his record as a trophy-winning rider.

The kid from Canterbury, winner of two Premier championships in four years, is ready to continue his speedway education from double world champion Jason Crump, back with the Aces after a year at Poole.

Crump's father Phil, who runs a tuning business in the Midlands, will also be heavily involved in Boxall's bid to break into big-time speedway.

He said: "I rode a few meetings with Jason at Poole last season and he helped me a lot. I didn't know quite what to expect with him being such a top man but he was brilliant and I am looking forward to riding in the same team.

"In addition, his father will be looking after my engines and I am sure I'll be able to learn a few little tricks from him.

"I've always been one for listening to advice, especially from top riders, although I have to decide if what I've been told is going to be good for me.

"I'll also be listening to what Joe Screen tells me because he'll be my captain at Belle Vue and also in Sweden where we'll be riding for the same club."

Boxall added: "Coming to Belle Vue is a big step but after everything that's happened this winter, with the lowering of team strength and new riders coming in, I think it's a good time to jump up.

"I've always won trophies in my career, going back to when I was doing grasstrack racing, and I hope to continue that at Belle Vue."

Boxall, who comes into the side on a 3.73 average, added: "I've set myself a target every year I've been racing and, so far, I've always achieved it.

"My aim at Belle Vue is to increase my average by two points and I feel confident I can manage that with a figure around the 5.5 mark."
