NICK Dougherty played what he described as perfect golf in the third round of the Singapore Masters at Laguna National when his six-under-par 66 hoisted him into contention in a tournament he won in 2005.

And 24 hours later he forced his way to the top of the leaderboard with three holes to play as he produced exquisite shots.

But the 24-year-old Shaw Hill professional blew his hopes after suffering a dramatic collapse in a spectacular 20-minute spell.

From short of the green in two at the par four 16th, he made a double bogey six. Then believing he needed two birdies, he made another double bogey at the 202-yard 17th.

But Dougherty remained philosophical after a 71 left him on nine-under-par and two short of the pace. He said: "I'm disappointed but I did well to get into the position I did with some fantastic golf over the week."

Liang Wen-chong defeated Iain Steel in the play-off.

MOSSOCK Hall's David Shacklady shared first prize with Warrington assistant Graham Cox in the Rednet-Exel Tour pro-am in Spain on seven-under-par.
