The experienced scrum-half will feature in Sale’s first pre-season game at home to Edinburgh tonight instead of playing for Wales against Argentina tomorrow.
Only an injury to one of his rivals will see Peel – entering his fourth season with Sale – named in Wales’ World Cup squad on Monday.
And with Sale boss Steve Diamond having overhauled his playing staff to put together a youthful squad, Peel expects to be taking one or two under his wing.
“I’m 30 in two weeks and I enjoy that type of challenge,” he said.
“The position I play in as well, it’s important to be that sort of character.
“There’s a lot of good young talent coming through, and that can only be good for the future of Sale.
“We’re all itching to play on Friday night and everyone’s looking forward to the new season. It’s exciting times to be a Sale player.” Tweet
