Sharks' Italian job ended in success as the injury- ravaged side came back with a five-point victory under its belt.
The Edgeley Park side needed to win and score four or more tries which is exactly what they did.
But with the Ospreys drawing 22-22 against group favourites Stade Francais yesterday, it means Sharks must win to have a chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals as one of the two best runners-up.
Winger Oriol Ripol led the way in Italy with two tries while centre Chris Mayor and scrum-half Ben Foden, back in his preferred position after spending most of the season on the wing, claimed the other.
Richard Wigglesworth, resuming his adopted role at fly-half, landed three conversions and a penalty in the Pool Three clash.
After a brave second-half performance, prop Lorenzo Cittadini claimed a consolation try four minutes from time for bottom-of-the-table Calvisano whose other points came from a Roland De Marigny drop goal on 20 minutes and a Andrea Scanavacca penalty on 55 minutes.
Sharks' Director of rugby Philippe Saint-Andre said: "We came here with a job to do and we did it.
"I was pleased with the way the guys played. They worked hard, particularly in the second half.
"Calvisano defended well, and I was happy when we got the fourth try of the game."
Wigglesworth kicked Sale ahead with a third minute penalty with Ripol finding a gap to score under the posts eight minutes later.
Wigglesworth converted and then supplied the vital pass for Mayor to cross and score.
Ben Foden, who scored a hat-trick against the Italian side in the home leg, darted over for try number three after 37 minutes.
It was the try of the match with the ball going through a dozen pairs of hands across the width of the pitch.
Ripol completed the try tally in the second half.
But, with victory virtually secured, the Sharks' injury problems continued.
Nathan Bonner Evans was stretchered off, to be replaced by David Tait, playing his first game since breaking his leg in the EDF game at Harlequins.
