MACCLESFIELD finally had something to celebrate when they won the Cheshire Cup at Heywood Road on Saturday. But they needed extra time to beat plucky Chester 36-26. Tim Kerr scored the opening try on two minutes and hooker Pete Allen added a second soon afterwards. Chester had drawn level by the interval and, despite a try from centre Tony Howcroft and penalties from Ross Whinney, Macclesfield couldn't shake off their resilient junior opponents. Howcroft grabbed his second try in extra time and that proved to be the clincher. At least Macclesfield were at full strength by then, having had forwards Rob Bieniasz and Ollie Hewitt sin-binned earlier. Sedgley Park's belated winning ways continued when they beat Doncaster 33-19 in National One. Park's Phil Jones and the visitors' marksman Rob Lilley, the former Sale fly-half, managed 12 out of 12 kicks between them. Not for the first time Park slipped behind early on and found themselves playing catch up, but seven penalties from Jones and tries by Chris Wilkinson and Jon Feeley saw them safely home against their fellow strugglers.
