With 21 senior players unavailable either through international duty or injury, Jones had been forced to field a hugely inexperienced side featuring two teenage debutants.
And though the Sharks director of rugby largely absolved the youngsters from blame, he was scathing about the contributions of some of their more battle-hardened colleagues as a rampant Bath ran in six tries in what was the heaviest defeat of his reign.
"I was very disappointed with some of my senior players. There were half a dozen guys there who are out of contract next year and though I'm not judging them solely on 40 or 50 minutes, that performance helped me a long way towards making my decision on their future with the club," revealed Jones, who is set to bring in former Wales and British Lions back Dafydd James on a short-term contract.
"To be fair though I thought some of the young boys put their hand up. Jordan Davies did very well at centre and I was impressed with Ian Kench when he came in the second-half.
"But we made so many basic errors in the first-half and it was a very, very disappointing display."
Kristian Ormsby and Dean Schofield also picked up calf injuries to compound Sale's misery.
"I'm hurting inside now but if we get a result next week at Wasps in the Premiership, this will be forgotten," Jones added.
"These players need to learn from this but they shouldn't dwell on it."
