Victory in tomorrow night's Edgeley Park showdown would lift the Sharks up into second place in what is a crowded top half of the table with just five points separating the top six.
It would also further bolster confidence in the wake of last Sunday's encouraging 13-12 win at champions Wasps.
"It's certainly shaping up the be the most competitive Premiership ever," admitted Jones. "We've played seven, won five and played four games away from home. Yet with just one defeat against Worcester we suddenly went from second to sixth.
"But if that can happen, it can happen in reverse as well and we can shoot up from sixth to second this Friday and that type of seesawing is going to happen a lot this season.
"In fact, the table is mirroring the football Premier League in that it is so close.
"You look at sides like Northampton and Saracens who have been doing well and suddenly that have slipped down the table after one poor result.
"The other big thing for us to realise is that the base for winning any tournament is to start winning at home again so after four losses at home, the big thing for us now is to get back to winning ways at Edgeley Park.
Slipped
"I think we've got one of the best away records around but we've slipped up at home of late which is not acceptable.
"We need to bring back the Edgeley Park factor for the team, the coaches and the supporters and we owe a lot of people after what was a poor display against Worcester a fortnight ago."
After scratching around for a starting XV over the past fortnight, Sale are suddenly spoilt for choice again tomorrow with five top-drawer internationals in the shape of Juan Lobbe, Rory Lamont, Lionel Faure, Sebastien Chabal and Dwayne Peel all available.
It presents Jones and director of rugby Philippe Saint-Andre with a dilemma following the heroic way a largely inexperienced team withstood huge Wasps pressure to win at Adams Park.
"Selection is very important this week and we've got to get the right balance," Jones added.
"We've got to look at the guys coming back, see what their body language is like and how keen, fit and well they are as well as looking at how much rugby they've played in the last three weeks.
"But equally you've got to reward those guys who fronted up at Wasps. It's a five-day turnaround from that game so if there's anyone carrying injuries, we need to bring people back in.
"Obviously, we've got world- class players coming back and if they're right we've got to use them but also reward those who did well last Sunday and who are still hungry this week."
However forwards Kristian Ormsby, Chris Jones and Martin Halsall are still sidelined.
"I thought that the attitude down in Wasps was marvellous," Jones added. "Now it's vital that we keep up that momentum tomorrow night."
