The 22-year-old arrived at Edgeley Park earlier this summer from Newcastle Falcons, bearing the tag of being England's most flexible friend.
Despite his tender years, Tait has already amassed 24 caps, having being deployed at full-back, wing and outside centre at various stages in his international career.
But ahead of his debut appearance for Sale in tomorrow's friendly at home to Leeds Carnegie, Tait revealed that his days of wandering are over with club and country both decreeing from now, he will be selected at full-back.
The decision was reached following high-level contact between new England supremo Martin Johnson - who named Tait in his elite player squad last month, Sharks' director of rugby Philippe Saint-Andre and the player.
However, Saint-Andre still has the option to switch Tait should injuries or tactical needs arise.
And as far as Tait is concerned, it's the ideal time to cement his own place in both Sale and England's sides.
"I have spoken to Philippe and Martin and I will be primarily playing at full-back in the coming campaign," said the versatile Tait.
"They both said that their plans for me were to fill that position. I have been in and out of the England side in the last few years and I want to nail down a starting position. That means playing at full-back but that's only going to come from playing well here at Sale.
"I think having a set position certainly helps from a form point of view.
"You don't mind being moved around occasionally throughout the season, but to get the best out of yourself it's important to settle in one position."
Having made the move south up the A1, Tait is also intent on erasing the memory of what was a miserable domestic season with Newcastle last year by helping Sale muscle their way back into English rugby's elite.
"On paper we have got a very good squad and its up to the players now to fulfil that potential on the pitch," Tait added. "We've got to target reaching the top four of the Guinness Premiership in order to reach the play-offs and seek to get out of what will be a very tough Heineken Cup group too.
"With the players we've already got here and the players that have come in, it's clear that the club is moving in the right direction and I very much wanted to be part of that.
"Fellow new signing Dwayne Peel's a fantastic player but there's loads of talent throughout the squad. Just look at Luke McAlister, Rory Lamont, Mark Cueto, Richard Wigglesworth, Charlie Hodgson and that's just the backs!
"It's a great squad on paper but we just need to ensure we fulfil that potential on the pitch."
