The Sharks loose-head will partner skipper Phil Vickery in the front row when England take on Wales at Twickenham on Saturday in a World Cup warm-up game.
Sharks team-mate Mark Cueto is also back for his country after a lengthy lay-off.
Cueto will start at full-back this weekend, having recovered from a string of injuries which ruled him out of action for much of last season.
Sale stand-off Charlie Hodgson had hoped to be ready following his cruciate ligament injury, but Jonny Wilkinson has been chosen to start against Wales - with his Newcastle team-mate Toby Flood on the bench.
Former Sale skipper Jason Robinson, who retired from club rugby at the end of last season, is on the wing.
Warrington-born winger Dave Strettle (Harlequins) and former Wigan Warrior Andy Farrell, now at Saracens, were both laid low by illness during England's summer tour to South Africa, but have been handed another chance to impress.
Farrell will line up in the centre alongside England's solitary newcomer, Leicester centre Dan Hipkiss.
Performance
England coach Brian Ashton said: "For the first time since Andy switched codes, he is training injury-free.
"He looks a lot fitter than he was when he played for England in the Six Nations last season and, consequently, he looks more the player that he was when he switched codes than he did when he started playing for Saracens last season.
"He deserves a shot. I am looking for a big performance."
Farrell is no stranger to life in the spotlight, and he admitted: "Some people might see it as a trial game.
"But I suppose every time you play for your country it is a type of trial game anyway because you always want to play in the next game.
"The main thing for everyone in the team is to try and put together what we have been doing for the last five or six weeks and get this team moving forward towards the World Cup.
"I have had about six weeks of really intense training, three or four sessions a day. Six months ago, I wouldn't have been able to have done that.
"I would think it was 2004 when I was last fully fit."
For Wales, Gavin Henson has been ruled out of the World Cup after failing to make the Wales squad for Saturday's warm-up game against England.
