SALFORD coach Karl Harrison saluted the performance of his players despite seeing them slip to a second last-minute defeat of the season.
Richard Horne's late drop goal secured Hull's win which leaves them on the verge of securing a maiden top-two finish in the engage Super League.
Simon Finnigan and John Wilshere both touched down for the Reds, who remain in pole position to secure a play-off spot.
Harrison did have some criticism for referee Ben Thaler however, after the official declined to award Salford possession after David Hodgson's failed penalty goal missed and went out of play. As a result, Hull gained possession of the ball and were subsequently rarely out of the Salford half as they pressed for the winning score.
After Danny Washbrook's 30th minute try, Hull were only able to add three Paul Cooke goals to their score before Cooke and Horne both began trying to secure a winning drop goal - which came at the third attempt.
